when fitting say a new seat post, crank etc what grease should i be applying? thank you

    This would be better posted in the Workshop forum.

    It also makes a bigg difference which parts you want to grease. For example a seat post shouldn't have any, a bottom bracket and wheel bearings may use one type where other parts may be better with another.

    When asking about seat post fitting make sure you specify what materials the frame and the post are made from as again it makes a big difference.

    You should have grease on the seat post as it helps the clamp grip better and prevent moisture from helping the post to seize to the frame.

    Or carbon paste if using carbon components (helps with grip without over tightening).

    Seat posts particularly are prone to seizing in the frame if not lubricated in some way.
