Hi, looking for a first road bike for a friend, he is 6ft 3 so would require a 60cm frame, I think. The budget for the bike is between £450 and £550. Ideally a triple. Thanks.

  • I'm about to buy my first road bike, going for a giant defy 4. The XL is 58.5, I'm 6ft 5 and it fitted nicely for me.

    I'm paying £540 for mine

Try putting this in the Wanted section on classifieds... I did when I was looking and had a lot of lovely bikes offered to me, in fact it's where I brought the bike I'm currently riding!

    All the best
  • Originally i had put this in the wanted section, where people suggested my friend would require a 60cm frame.. This is road buying 'advice' where i am asking if anyone recommends any bikes, for my price range and specifications. I'm not wanting to purchase the bike myself either.

    Sorry, I misunderstood...

I'd advise Trek 1.2,1.5,1.7 all can be brought quite cheaply and have some good components.
Specialized Allez are a good range as well.
Boardman bikes are great value for money as well

I have a Spec Allez triple 58cm XL 2010 for sale that's hardly been used, and in excellent condition. I'm looking for £425 for it. I'm 6ft 3 and fits me fine.

There are a few upgrades - RS10 wheels, Shimano 105 brake calipers and pedals, plus nearly new Conti Ultrasport tyres. Also have a FSA carbonpro seatpost which can stay on.

I'm about to put it on Ebay in the next few days/weeks.

ps. 60cm will be an XXL frame
  • @indyP do you have any pictures?

can't help with bikes, but maybe widen the range of sizes to consider...

the 'right' size will depend on body proportions and flexibility, not just height, the geometry of the bike will also make a difference

inside leg measurement might help narrow things down a bit
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
