So I managed to bend my rear mech last week whilst out riding (wasn't a great walk back to the car!!), and wondering if theres really that much difference between rear mechs.

The bent one was a Shimano Deore XT M772 9spd, am I able to change to an XTR 9 speed rear mech and keep my XT shifters? Is it even worth it or should I just replace like for like?

Probably not worth it. Any Shimano 9 speed mech will work. Money is better spend at the shifters, if you really want to upgrade.

Thanks, so it'll be more of an upgrade to change to the XTR shifters and keep an XT rear mech?

    Rear shifter, certainly.

If you've trashed a 60 quid mech, better than the 120 of the xtr

I wouldn't bother. Doubt you'll notice the difference

Have you tried a M970 rear shifter? They are fantastic, compared to the XT.
