Tyre Upgrade

Hi all. First post, just signed up! I own a Trek 4500 2011 spec, had it nearly a year and needing some new tyres as my current ones are as near as makes no difference slick.
Have been looking at Maxxis Crossmark tyres. I've got Shimano M65 hubs and my current tyres are 26 x 2.1.
With these hubs is it worth looking at slightly larger tyres? I'm not sure how large I can go because of my frame and forks!
Thanks

CrossMarks front & rear is a brave move but if your riding involves mostly dry-ish gnar tech they work very well on the back with an Advantage/Ardent/High Roller up front
2.25 60a folders0 -
I found crossmark rear with a minion up front was a decent combo for summer.0

Sweet, thanks for the info guys.0

Crossmarks are good tyres and offer quite a bit of grip, even in the damp conditions.
I've been really impressed with the Advantage over the winter months, plenty of grip and they last a decent amount of time too.0 -
sorry to hijack the thread - im looking for something to replace the mountain kings that came on my boardman as unless i'm on hardpack (trail centers) then i've no grip, in woods, on rocks/roots which is where i do most of my riding they are useless - any light sugestions i dont really want anything heavier than what i have!opinions are worth exactly what you pay for them ;-)
2012 boardman team F/S tarting has begun..

Have a look at the Black Chilli versions of your MKs0

thanks will the chilli help with them drifting out in deep leaf cover/loam as its its like riding on ice at the moment! i just dont feal as if they have any grip unless its solid under foot :-(opinions are worth exactly what you pay for them ;-)

The OE MKs are notoriously plasticky and have very little in the way of grip. The Black Chilli versions are a lot better but probably still not the best for the conditions you describe.
If you're looking for something with cornering bite, square-profiled tyres with tall shoulders are the best - Minions, High Rollers and to a lesser extent Advantages. If you don't want to go too heavy then an Advantage on the front (650g for a 2.25 60a Exo folder) would be a good start.0
