Hello!

If you have 5 minutes, I'd greatly appreciate your help on a school survey.

We're unaffiliated with the Trek brand; we are students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We're seeking to learn more about Trek's perceived brand personality. It is a very qualitative survey, and it is explicitly about Trek.

It's quick. Thank you!!

A couple disclaimers:

- For those who are concerned that this may be spam; I can assure you it is not, but please refrain from taking it if you are concerned.
- I know this site does not represent a representative sample. I'm seeking to learn more from highly-engaged cyclists who are likely to have an understanding of the Trek brand.

I appreciate your help!

I go as far as item 3. TBH item 2 confused me. Almost all the words you have have no relevance. How do you rank stuff that is almost all irrelevant? I got to Item 3 - I have no idea who 3 of 5 of the ladies are.... Are you sure you made this survey for cyclists?

Q3 I only knew of one of the women!
Q4 I did not know any of them!

Thanks for your help, all. The words don't describe the bikes; they describe the brand. Trek presents its brand one way -- on its website, social media, etc., and we're seeking to compare that to consumer impressions.

If this isn't your thing, don't worry about it. For instance, Trek articulates that bikes should be for all. Do you think it delivers on that? If so, it might rank high in accessibility, for instance.

    I appreciate the help.

I didn't get past Q1 as I couldn't think of five words. You should be able to let the survey continue if people cannot. Not being able to think of 5 ways may give you some of the answers you are looking for...

Actually having gone through it, it is a ridiculous survey to start. Very hard to fill in. I am usually receptive to posts like this and surveys, but this has little to do with biking until later.
  • Got to 3 and 4 and it just failed to make sense... maybe a bit "American" for us simple Brits

Sorry. I did try. I got as far a writing "bikes" as the first word I think of when thinking of the Trek brand - couldn't think of any more! :|

I got to question 2 and the words there just seemed like random words, so I gave up.

    Poorly structured online data collection....

So I put a load of contradictory gibberish in it...

    Really?
  • Yeah, +1 to everyone, a terrible survey.

There is no comparison.... I would choose a ride on Megan Fox over my bike any day.
  • Completed it. I found it surprisingly difficult to come up with 5 words.

I can see how the survey might yield some useful data when comparing Trek's identity to other companies and even the people, but the word listing were perhaps a little too subjective.

Hmmm, I tried, as I quite like these things, but it really does seem truly irrelevant.

Trek isn't a person, it's a brand, as you've said, so trying to assign completely arbitrary personality traits or comparing to people who are largely actors, so one doesn't even really know what they're actually like, is not only impossible, but meaningless!

I tried and couldnt be bothered. But if it helps, some words I think of when I think of Trek:

    American
    Corporate
    Advanced
    Fast
    Straight Talking

This reminds me of somehilarity when a mate received a phonecall asking him to answer marketing questions about razors. One of their questions was "If Gillette razors were a man, what would his name be?"
We laughed (on speakerphone by this point), and asked to repeat the question, since surely, we must have eaten some funky mushrooms or something, nobody could be asking such odd questions, right?
They settled for the name "Timothy" in the end
