You rang?
Love my Canyon lol. Riding it everywhere now, as its my only bike... But its got me fitter
I think the FRX is slacker than mine (plus is adjustable), but I've got some offset shock bushings on the way for mine to rake it out and slacken it up which will take it into the FRX territory.
Spec wise for the ££££ you can't really beat them. They do ride really well, and pedal brilliantly when needed. I'd even say it pedalled better (up and down) than my old Commencal Meta.
The only issues i've had are with components, my wheels were crap and the forks a bit poo. TBH I wish I'd spent a bit more out the box but never mind.
Not ridden a demo, so I can't really compare tbh. But I don't think you''ll be disappointed!0 -
i knew i would regreat selling my demo...
the only thing i did not like with the demo was it sat low into its travel which was good on rough steep teccy stuff but it was a nightmare to jump the back end was heavy to.. i really did struggle to jump the demo..
does the canyon torque sit low or on top of its travel.. (ie my butcher sit at the top of its travel and pops nice off jumps) and how is it for jumping is it a poppy bike....www.bearbackbiking.com

I'll be honest, I've only just started to get into the swing of things with my Torque.
I had to change the rear spring and get the DHX set up nicely (which seems to have taken me ages), but it does jump well. I'm pretty crap when it comes to tabletops etc, but I'm finding now that I can get it up in the air without much effort at all. Drops and floaty sections are brilliant.
If fact, there are 3 big table tops on the Twrch, on the airstream 'freeride' section which I've never been able to clear... but today I jumped up and over each and landed on the transition with just a small bit of 'pop'.0 -
sweet gonna continue to mither you now....
would you say the suspension is plush..
if i compair my heckler to the butcher the butcher is definatly plusher than the heckler was...
the thing i liked most on the demo was-was how plush the suspension was.. especially on rough ground..
how do you rate the canyon on rough stuff??www.bearbackbiking.com

Well I guess it depends how you set it up tbh and what forks/shock you have.
I've go mine set fairly stiff as i hate the feeling when you blow through travel on some of the deep berms at CC.
But if I fit the lighter springs to get more sag then it's plusher over the jittery small stuff.... Depends what you want really!
The rear on mine feels bottomless though, and with it being coil, the compression rate is consistent through the stroke.0 -
excellent thanks ben....
the shock on the one i looking at is a ccdb. with fox 36 factory van fit rc2 kashimawww.bearbackbiking.com

The reason your Butcher feels easier to jump is because its a single pivot. This is also the reason it doesnt feel as "plush" as the specialized over rough ground.
Out of all the full suspension bikes Ive used, the easiest for jumps have been single pivots (Orange Patriot and an old DHR) They definitely pop off jumps easier.
The worst was some old SC VPP, you had to go quite a bit faster and pump a bit harder as it just soaked up takeoffs so much.0 -
excellent styxd this is the kind of advice i been looking for.. come on guys keep it coming..
Aaron were are you i know you had various sus types over the years.. how do rate the canyon compaired to the vpps and elsworths ect..www.bearbackbiking.com

Hallo, I got your poke - you described it as a little poke, but I can tell you from my end, it felt like a big poke. Don't do yourself a dis-service!
Sus wise, over the years I've had single pivot, i-Drive, Freedrive, VPP (mk1), ITS (ellsworth) and now the Horst link of the Torque. What can I tell you about how they handle? Sod all the geometry makes such a big difference. This was especially notable on the Prophet as it was adjustable and its 'slack' mode was amazing to ride, but the suspension didn't work at all... So I rode it in XC mode where it performed admirably but wasn't as railed.
As Ben says - offset bushes will make a difference. I've got an angleset in the Moment at the... um... moment... and it's very nice. You really can tailor any bike these days.
As for the Torque though - it's the biggest travel bike I've ever had. It's giving me the confidence to hit 20' tables, 10' step downs and 6'+ drop-offs. Despite it's big hit abilities, I've ridden it pleasurably around the Dark Peaks. It pedals and absorbes big hits very well but it's not the best at stutter bumps. The VPP is the plushest suspension I've ever owned, it was mind boggling good at everything. But the Torque works fine. I've no major issues with it.
edit-- I find it hard to talk about suspension performance as I don't seem to 'feel' it, geometry has a bigger influence for me. The only two things I've ever decided for certain is that I love Intense VPP and despise Freedrive/i-Drive.
I will offer a ride on her if you like? I'd meet you in the Peaks and we could go hit something, Wharnecliffe, Cutgate, Laybower etc and you could get a much better idea of what she's like. And you've also got the offer of the bike bag to take to Whistler should you want it.0 -
oh - and I've noticed that BR has developed this new term which I've seen used in two of the 'bike of the year' reviews... 3D dynamic. I think they mean that not all bikes are able to move in all three dimensions. To keep up with the times, I should point out that the Canyon does indeed move with 3D dynamic, but also betters the bikes of the year by also moving through time - so it has 4D dynamic. Unless... you want time to be paused when you ride... do modern bikes pause time?? Can you ride for enternity and still make it back for dinner??0
-
So Bluechair what you are saying is that out of all of them you prefer the VPP system? Or just the MK1 is that good?0
-
I've only ridden the original Intense/SC VPP, not the new version. But that is to this day the best performing suspension I've ever used. However, the Intense 5.5 it was mated to was a real love/hate bike. Its geometry was exciting but tiring. So overall, I prefer my Moment to the 5.5 because of the geometry. I think it's the geo that makes or brakes a bike. I find suspension much of a muchness; when set up right they all do a fairly similar job to me. VPP is the only one that ever blew me away.0
