after ticking all the hardest climbs of in the dales... ie park rash, fleet moss, coal road both ways... we decided after fleet moss and kidstones we would amble up a new climb called fleakmoss... holy sh!t what a climb ramped up straight away to 20-25% for 3 large ramps then down do around 16% for what seemed a life time... much harder than coal road and fleet moss in my opinion... fleet moss is just a short steep dig at the end of a steady climb really but fleak moss is was just epic... anyone else here done this climb?

Turn off the straights at askrigg on to flow edge... And head for the sky it's a long climb... Other side looks just as bad
  • Ah, thanks. Can see where you mean on Bing maps. New one on me, not done that. If it's worse than the Coal road from Dentdale side then it will probably always be a new one on me :-)

yeah been up coal road from cowgill a couple of times and the first steep section is a little crazy but this was insane... such good roads round these parts going to give oxnop a crack next time... is it any good?
  • Not done it from Askrigg - but has quite a reputation: up there amongst the best Dales horrors. Enjoy!

Have done both oxnop and fleak moss but fleak moss went on some - road surface was a bit iffy but that was a few years back. You take a right rather than climb from Askrigg to Muker to get onto fleak moss. Did not find it too bad though but for some strange reason I find fleet moss harder than any other climb in the Dales and that includes park rash. Dont know why as I do much harder hills without feeling as bad.

No, I only found that one after putting the bike away and heading out in the car but it looked v steep and tough. It's on the list to tackle next time i'm over that way.

Im with you on this one-cannot understand either why Fleet Moss is so hard unless it is because you never come to it with fresh legs.Going to check the gradients with a GPS next time I try it as there is something going on there.
Whats the solution? Just pedal faster you baby.
