Hi all

First time on here, so be gentle!

I am sorted for my MTB, but am looking to expand my horizons to the road. We are pretty limited for off road facilities in the north of Ireland and I want to try to put some road miles on my legs.

Don't want to spend a big amount to begin with, just in case the road thing doesn't do it for me. So, I spotted a bike locally, which seems reasonable, apart from the fact that the person selling it has his poor old dad doing the necessary. This would be great if he had told him anything other than "its a gents road bike in great order!"

I can go and have a look at it, but would value the collective opinion on it, not the least of which is, what actual model it is. I got as far as Orbea and it's blue. After that....

I have posted the link to it and no doubt, someone will know it straight off.

Regards

if you wiki orbea models and look attheir road range the Asphalt comes close colour wise but there are no old models with a quill stem. Whats annoying about the pics is that if you look at the old orbea frames they have the model name on the top tube, and looks like the one in the ad has it too but its just too blurred to make it out, maybe you could ask what the seller what it says.
The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.
  • Thanks for that. I reckon it's worth a look at that money. Dare I say, how bad can it be??

You should be able to do alot better than that for £240 ... You could get a 3 y/o Specialized Allez or Trek 1000 for that cash ...

Quill stems stopped being used 12 years ago so that's an indicator of the age of the bike ...

Of course it depends on how soon you need it ... I'm gonna regret saying this but even a Halfords bike would be a better idea ...
  • Interesting that he has doubled the price since I enquired! Wouldn't consider it at that price.

I take your point completely. Will continue to scour the classifieds and see what turns up. I'm in no particular hurry, but by the same token, I don't want the summer to slip by.

    Thanks for the advice.

  • Thanks for that. My problem is the limited market in Northern Ireland and most folk won't post here. I know something will turn up - eternal optimist!
