Hello

Im making my first trip to do an uplift day at Cymcarn in a couple of weeks. I have done some Dh riding in Switzerland (Leysin) and Aston Hill (on a 135mm HT) and Danbury (if that counts) Just got a couple of questions.

1) Im riding a 160mm Nukeproof Mega on 2.35 Nobby Nics, is it advisable to go for a bigger volume tyre for the day, personally I cant really be bothered but the bloke Im going with is assuring me Ill be fixing pinches all day (he has never been there either, I just think he is being gay)

2) It looks on the videos just like a steep trail centre, should I treat it as such or take more care?

Any advice on a dull Saturday night nursing wrecked legs appreciated

    1) I rode it fine on 2.35 maxxis tyres and they're renowned for being smaller than they say they are, they weren't even dual ply because I was poor when I bought them. I'd just make sure you're pressures aren't really low.

    2) It's nothing much to worry about really, to be honest everything is rollable or has a rollabe option, take it easy the first run or two to get an idea for the trail then just go for it as you feel ready. It's great fun, the faster you hit it the better it feels too.

i ride it on 2.2 conti verticals, but usually as part of a bigger ride, i've never done and uplift day there, i'd say if you have bigger tyres chuck them on, but you don't need them.

everything is rollable, but it is definately more technical than a red rated xc trail centre descent. my advice would be to take it easy on the first run to get the feel and then build up from there.

i'm in no-way an expert, but that's what i'd suggest

Was up at Cwmcarn for the first time last week. I stuck to Twrch, but the rest did the downhill, one of them on a Rockrider hardtail with 100 travel.

  • Tis steep in sections, but all rollable... Especially since they've re-surfaced a lot and got ride of any big slabs.

2.35 tyres will be fine, but go bigger volume if you want to run lower pressures.

When you going to be there?

As others have said you will be fine with what you have.

Should be fine with what you've got, I did as a relative newbie to downhilling a few months ago and survived. Just wear the usual DH protective gear as it's quite rocky/hardpack.

My only worry is the problem i found with the nobbbies, there are shoot on wettish roots and rocks, and that's pretty much Cwm.

But should be wine if its a good dry day. But that's my prejudice against the Nobbies.

You'll have alot of fun on the nukeproof enjoy :-))

As others have said - its steep enough and has enough interesting features in places to warrant a more cautious than normal first fun before fully opening the throttle.

My introduction to DH was last year over here on my Rockhopper HT with 105mm forks, a 110mm stem, 160mm rotors & 2" tyres :? ...had a blast, and was addicted after the first run :D

A few weeks later I did a day on a Spesh Enduro (similar kinda bike to the Mega I guess) - now that was real fun!!

As the trail is now if you did the main red run you go over hardly any roots, and none of those are bad in the wet.

And the XC final decent on the Twrch has more loose rocks than the DH now!

Cheers guys, Ive ridden the twrch several times and think its the best decent... really looking forward to the DH mainly because it looks like its not too gnarly. Saved me some £s too with not needing specific tyres and all.

Will be there on the sat of the BHol coming up, yellow nukeproof mega if anyone is about...

Hope it stops raining by then!!!
