Raleigh SXC

Hi all,
This is my first post, I have just acquired a Raleigh SXC from a friend for free as I'd mentioned that I was interesting in starting road cycling.
I dont know a great deal about bikes at the moment. But I know a lot of work needs doing to this bike as a lot has rusted but the frame seems fine. So I thought it would be a good project.
My question: the rear derailer is a sachs 2000, is the company still going? If not what do I need to replace it with?
Anybody know anything/owned this make before?
Thanks
Bateman

B&Q sell a garden machinery rust remover. Apply liberally and wash off after a day, rubbing with scotchbrite. The metal work will need protecting after cleaning otherwise it will rust again. Also, your a-se will need similar attention.
Nothing wrong with Sachs equipment. Top of the range in its day....................................................................................................

I don't know the age of the bike, if you don't get much help here you could try http://www.retrobike.co.uk/Summer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team
Winter - Trek Madone 3.5 2012 with UDi2 upgrade.
