10 speed chain question

About to go 3x10 on my new build, and was looking at the sram joining links. Used the 9 speed ones on my current bike with no probs. My question is this :- It says you can only use the 10 speed ones once, is this true or are they covering themselves??? Could work out expensive as I like to take the chain off regularly to give it a good clean.

They are not powerlinks but hey are powerlocks. One time use. Others are multi use."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

But can you get a multi use for a 10 speed?? Loved the idea of the re usable one on my 9 speed and the fact I could "break" the chain out on the trail without tools0

Yes like I said there are others that are multi use.
KMC for one."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

If it's any help I'm about to ditch the big ring on my Canyon and make it a 2x10.Cannondale Synapse 105

Unless you strike your outer ring often i wouldn't bother, no benefit really.0

Save yourself some work and just don't use the big ring"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

There's really no gain in removing it if you don't.0 -
no, but thinking that why have 30 gears when only about 17 are unique and usable. Really cant make my mind up :oops:0

Do you ground your ring often, and do you value the 2/3 extra gears you have with a big ring? They're the questions going 2 x asks0

Need to decide now 40/28 or 38/26 with a 36-11 cassette.0

If you think you want the lower end then 26/38. If you want more top end get the 28/40.0

In my opinion, forget about 3x10. Seems pointless. The point of 2x10 is gives you almost the range of 3x9 with less duplication of ratios depending on the set up. 3x10 just seems like an additional useless ring and extra shifting hassles.
I'm definitely sold on 2x10, though also like the 1x10 I have on the hard tail. A little more effort but not much and no front mech makes for even less hassles.
The set up will be down to personal preference though. I've got (sram) 26/39 with 12-36 cassette and suits me fine for riding with a gravity preference but the inevitable necessary evil of having to climb up something steep. To me there's no 'granny' now, just two rings that are of equal use and get full range out of them both.
And yeah - KMC links. Go the whole hog and get KMC chain as well. So much better.0 -
Yeah 2x10 is making a lot more sense to me. 3x10 only gives 17 (I think) usable unique gears.
Will look at the KMC chains and joiners thanks0
