Just been fettling with a disc brake setup and have managed to overtighten one of the bolts that secures the caliper to the fork. It's post mount and I think the thread has been stripped after I had tried to secure another bolt in the hope that it may rethread itself! Anybody got any ideas as to whether I'm looking at new forks as a replacement or can the post mount thread be rethreaded?

Enough thread left to fit a longer bolt?

If a longer bolt doesn't work it's helicoil time

  • There probaly was enough thread for a longer bolt initially, however my stuborn determination has now resulted in a lot less thread so I will pursue the helicoil. Will see what my LBS can sort, he's usually quite handy and has bailed me out more than once before. Thanks fir the reply at least you give me some hope

Maybe but there's not much metal there. Might not be enough for a helicoil.
One of the benefits of IS mount.

Or new lowers. I hate post mount. There should be a replaceable nut in the post.
