MTB around Clapham / Richmond

Hi

Not a newbie to road cycling, but I am to mountain biking. My mate and I are interested to know if there's anywhere good to go mountain biking around Clapham / Richmond. I know it's quite flat - but maybe there's a hidden gem somewhere we don't know about.

    Bits of Wimbledon common are ok - just you're not really allowed every where, but as long as the ranger doesn't see you...

    It's only a mile from me, so is the place I go the most. Not much really in Richmand park for MTBing.

    Wimbledon common is your best bet locally though it's terribly tame.

    further out there is Esher Woods which is a little bit more fun.

    But realistically find a way to get to swinley/surrey hills neither is that technical either but they are bags of fun though getting lost is fairly likely!

    Both swinley and SH are easily accessed by train or car from where you are. Definitely your best bet.

    + some other bikes.

    Keep an eye on the London Calling thread in Rides - regular stuff at Swinley or SH.
