Help with maxxis tyres??

Hi
I have recently bought a Trek 6500 and I am now waiting delivery. The trek has Bontrager XR1 tyres as standard and I have read quite a few reviews sayin they roll very fast but suffer in wet conditions. I am looking for a tyre that serves me well on trails and I cant say whether it would be wet or dry. I am willing to sacrifice some rolling speed for some grip when it gets a bit wet. I have been looking at the Maxxis cross mark and ignitor but I am torn between them. Can someone give me some advice on the matter and whether to even run both on different wheels (not very clued up when it comes to using different tyres front/rear), or maybe even some completely different tyres??

I use Ignitors. Exception series. Work for me.
Can't comment on Crossmarks.
But you are about to get lots of random advice on various random tyres.I don't do smileys.

Anything and everything. From natural trails to Welsh trail centres (always wet there).I don't do smileys.

I find an ignitor great up front. Use them everywhere, Wales, Scotland, Peaks, trail centres, tend to keep one on the front all the time, in fact apart from one ride I've always had an ignitor on the front for the best part of a year now.
Rear it varies, sometimes use an ignitor, I'm not massively bothered about rear tyres though, as long as it's relatively light and not too draggy I'm usually quite happy.0 -

This just shows how everyone likes something different from a tyre, personally I don't like highrollers, I'll use one out back but up front I find it lets go too quickly and easily through the corners. Might take you a little time to find a tyre you like, I gave the highroller time and tried to get it to work for me but just couldn't, you could find the same thing with other tyres.0 -
I've been using a Crossmark on the back for ages all year round and wouldn't use anything else for the conditions I ride in, admittedly they would struggle in very muddy boggy conditions but then so would most normal trail tyres. I use an Advantage up front which I like but have heard good things about the Ardent so will try that next.0

Minion up front, High roller on the back, loads of grip up front and I love how the High roller lets the back end step out.0

Agree with the comment that you'll get a hundred different answers to this one though - it's totally subjective! I like my front tyre to be REALLY grippy so the above combination works for me even if it's considered grip-overkill to others! I've tried tyres that friends have raved about and they just haven't worked for me - it really is a case of just finding what YOU like and sticking to itLife is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....
