Vittoria Open Pave - Mileage ?

Morning all.

What kind of mileage are people getting out these - in particular on the tyre ?

Got about 900 miles so far on this set and the back tyre is looking quite worn (especially in comparison to the front) with all the texture gone from the central green strip. Is there much more life in these yet ?

Used to running GP4000's with there wear indicators ! Looking at the wear rate wondering if it will be 3 rears to 1 front with the Pavés

Cheers

Rich

The Pave are very soft, to provide more grip, therefore they wear faster than other tyres. They are meant to be used on slippery surfaces and that's what they're good for... mileage is not among their strengths, I am afraid.
You can swap front and rear to get a bit more mileage out

Never a fan of swapping back to front will just throw a new one on the back if required - the ride more than makes up for the quick wear.

Was wondering how much life was left really would be nice to eek out a few more miles on them until summer comes and then swap them over then.

A trawl of the web earlier seems to talk of 1200-1500 miles out of rear ?

I'm never keen on the idea of putting a worn rear tyre with the least grip onto the front wheel where you need the most grip. If you're going to rotate, then use the rear until it's no longer useful, then buy 1 new tyre, put that on the front and move the front tyre to the rear.

Also a worn tyre is more likely to puncture or blow, and I know I'd far rather have a rear blow out than a front one.

Crikey, I've had nearly 2000 miles out of mine. Just replaced them this week.

There's loads of miles left in them. I ride Vittoria tyres on all my wheels (CX, KX, Evo Tech, Pave and Rubino Pro) and I don't consider them worn in until the diamond pattern on the centre tread has worn off and they are worn out when I can see the canvas coming through!
  • Ha ha superb - cheers chaps !

I maybe worrying to much because of the lack of texture and am judging the wear purely on appearance. Still grips well just looks very worn compared to the front.

I have a spare here ready to go - but hopefully it sounds like I have another 900 miles left in it then !
