Quality LBS in Yorkshire?

I'm new to road bikes and in time intend to DIY all the maintenance. I've looked after my own motorbikes for the last 20 years so a road bike seems pretty simple to me. No doubt I will find it is not always that straightforward, but I enjoy tinkering.

However I'm looking to buy 2nd hand, to try and get more for my money, and would like to get one good professional service once I have bought the bike.

Can anyone recommend a good LBS that is not too far from Howden in East Yorkshire? Nearest towns/cities are York, Doncaster and Wakefield.

Cheers

  • Cyclesense in Tadcaster. Good family run LBS. I've always found them very helpful and honest.

Either Yorkcycleworks on Hull Road in York or Cycle Lane in Pocklington. Both are very friendly and very good

That's the second time I've heard/read about Pocklington tonight - just saw on local news earlier that the whole town centre is flooded. Presume that is where the bike shop is.
  • I will second that for cyclesense, bought my cube mtb from there as its nearest cube dealer, they are very good. I have also used cycle heaven, bishopthorpe rd in York, good too.

A bit more travel but air valley cycles in Keighley is where the Krs got her Felt, great selection of bikes and helpful chap who dealt with us. Or All Terrain cycles in Salt Air (Bradford) I have had no less than 4 bikes from them and great service every time.

If you want a blinding deal, talk to Ed at Cliff Prattt's in Hull - http://www.cpcycles.com/

Bit of a drive/ride, but Kendell Cycles in Castleford would be my Yorkshire recommendation.

I'll give All Terrain another mention, Saltaire in Bradford. Always sort me out.

  • Cycle lane in Pocklington, Nick who owns & runs it is simply excellent, great bike knowledge, friendly & helpful service, I use him for all of my work, bought bike elsewhere but Nick does all my maintenance.
