What is the best 'on bike' chain cleaning device that doesn't deposit dirty fluid everywhere?
Thx.

Thats a tall order
superstar make 1 that makes a right mess, but is simple and does a good job
the more cogs and stuff, makes it break quicker0 -
I do like the Park Tools Cyclone cleaner - around £21 from Winstanleys. You can also buy new brushes with a rebuild kit for about £7 when they wear out. Mine has lasted a couple of years just fine so far.

Park Tool's offering is brilliant. Highly-recommended.
Alternatively, get a magic link and set of master link pliers.0 -
They did a review of a load of them in Cycle Plus recently (or was it Cycle Active). Anyway, the Park Tool one was way ahead of the others. Works better and leaks less.0

+1 Park Tools.
Great bit of kit, leaks a bit mainly from cleaning fluid dripping off chain as it exits cleaner, but a bit of rag on the floor soon takes care of that.
Couldn't believe the result !0 -
I suspect the Park is the one to go for simply because of the spare parts availability.
That said, 3 and a half years ago I bought the Finish Line one - it doesn't leak (though the chain drips degreaser onto the newspaper that I had the common sense to put down first ) and it doesn't need any new parts and I use it a lot.
TBH, I doubt it really matters which one you get. And I wouldn't give the Cycling Plus review any more credence than any of their other views. I'd get the Chain Cleaner that your local bike shop sells.
I don't rely on it totally though - I regularly also remove the chain and cook it in degreaser.Faster than a tent.......0 -
Another vote for the Park Tools cleaner, great bit of kit.2019 Ribble CGR SL

Have a look at the Muc-Off clip on chain bath thingy. It connects on to a can of spray chain cleaner, so you only use enough cleaner to clean the chain as it gets directly blasted you don't need to fill a chain bath to run the chain through. It works very well and I reckon it saves 50-65% on chain cleaning fluid compared to some of the chain baths out there. As a result there is generally less messy fluid to spill anywhere else.0

I bought the Finish Line chain cleaner, and think it's great. Haven't used any of the others but I do recommend it. I didn't think I'd be able to notice anything after cleaning it, but the chain looks good and it performs much better now0

Lidls £5 ones don't do a bad job. Bit of leakage and the fluid is terrible (haven't tried the oil) but degreaser isn't too expensive.
For a fiver,if it wears out/breaks I won't cry0 -

True - but you can get a 5 litre bottles of ordinary degreaser at the likes of B&Q for a few quid that last for years and cost a fraction of the price of any specific bike product. And you can dilute the degreaser to get it to last even further and potentially let it settle a bit and re-use it! One such bottle has covered me for about 25000 miles of cycling and it's not empty yet!Faster than a tent.......0 -
Lidl are doing a deal on the Barbieri chain cleaners at the moment at £3.99.
Not the best but at £3.99...(just don't expect much from the free lube and degreaser).0 -
I have now ordered the Park.
Thanks for the recommendations.Team Madison Genesis Volare & Condor Super Acciaio0
