Ladies rep's in MTB clubs?

Hi,

I'm the ladies rep at Bedgebury Forest cycling club, this is a Forestry commision site near Goudhurst in Kent with singletrack, family rides, race track, with a total membership of over 200 members. It is also a Go Ride club affiliated to British Cycling that has several coaches and a strong Junior club.
I would like to know if there are any other mtb clubs with a Ladies rep out there?

I run a 4 - 6 weekly ladies ride, and I encourage all of them to race also, not that I have had much success in this way yet. It would be really nice to share some ideas and general chat on how to encourage more women to get on their bikes. and just to know if I'm the only one!

Hiya

We are an informal cycling club based in the New Forest, and whilst we don't have a formal committee etc I am completely in favour of getting more ladies out on their bikes (especially off-road)! I think one of the 'challenges' is that whilst road cycling is perceived to be all lycra and sexy little bikes, MTBing is perceived to be muddy, completely male-dominated, and occassionally painful :?

And don't get me started on the lack of women in the MTBing media (I work in publishing and this is a major bug of mine) - if you never show any images of ladies MTBing then the perception will be that's because they can't / shouldn't :evil:

Oh yes - I know there are a few fabulous sites bucking the trend

But generally.... Count the positive images of girls MTBing in a manistream biking mag and you'll see my point!

(It annoys the hell out of my in my industry too!!)

Fully agree with yuor sentiments - but you'd do well to boycott this forum until stuff that appears in the 'Cake Stop' part of this forum... girls in lycra shorts etc get stopped!
