XT brake lever compatibilty

I recently rode a yeti demo bike that had the 2012 XT brakes on, I prefere the feel of the 2012 system and the length of the levers compared to the older XT systems I am running now. i Dont have enough cash to get both front and rear brake assemblies so i was wondering if it would be possible to buy the 2012 levers and fit them onto the old XT calipers. Would this work or is most of the feel from the calipers?

    What model are your current XTs? Guessing not as they moved to servo wave in the later versions.
