Have to say don't know too much about these, so for my benefit and others, someone explain more.
What operates the gears are there still inner/outer shift cables, are there wires and where from and where to, how do the wires fit, where do you you run them on a normal frame that isn't pre-set up from the manufacturer for internal/electric systems.
What is the point if you still have cables of any sort, will there ever be wireless systems ?

Saw it fitted to a bike for the first time yesterday, it may shift well and the shifters look good but those derailleurs look huge and pig ugly, i'm going to wait until they bring MarkII out before i think about it.

I looked at that Shimano guide, looks like you need to employ an electrician.
Think it would be utterly pointless to upgrade to it, just replacing cables for wires, think only way I would go electric would be a new bike with the internal frame set up for it already.
Bring on full wireless system then I might be interested.

Its not just the shifting - its the self adjustment thats the clever part.

yes I know but unless your a pro or a serious roadie where a missed shift or a faster shift could loose or win a race and the opposition have electric gears, then really not worth it. Just my opinion.

Maybe at the moment your opinion is very worthy however at some point soon I think that all groupset will move toward electronic shifting on +£1k machines in the not too distant future. Like cheesecake "it's the future" :D

The Ultegra Di2 is making electronic shifting "affordable" for many keen/serious amateur cyclists and I can only see this becoming more commonplace as time moves on.
