Canyon Ultimate CF

Hey, I'm looking at getting a Canyon Ultimate CF 9.0 Pro which costs £2169. Would you say it's worth stretching a bit to the bottom of the SLX range and getting the SLX 8.0 for £2499?
The only difference seems to be Dura-Ace 7900 v. Chorus 11s as far as I can tell.

Its worth waiting a couple of months as they usually have TDF discounts on bikes. i think lasy year there was a 300 euro saving on that bike during the TDF. I am saving as we speak I would want camag anyway but the SLX looks nicer.0

It'll probably be a couple of months away anyway. I need to sell my car to fund this purchase!
I do like the stealth black of the SLX better, white bits tend to get filthy fast, but I guess performance is most important to me.0 -
I have ridden both the CF and SLX and there is no noticeable difference. The CF layup of the SLX is slightly different and it's supposed to be 15% stiffer and it's 50g lighter too but whether that's worth the £300+ premium is up to you.
It's also worth mentioning that the Ultimate CF range is long overdue for a refresh, I expect the current frame will be replaced before, or around the TDF0 -
Thanks for the advice guys, I will hold out for a bit longer and see if they refresh the range.

I've been looking long and hard at Canyon bikes and the general consensus is they are great. Had the similar dilemma but between the the Aero CF 8.0 Di2 and the Ultimate CF SLX 8.0. In the end I've plumped for the CF SLX due to Dura Ace and bullet proof wheels for our shoddy roads - though even now when I look at the Aero, it just looks too pretty.
Looking forward to riding it now.0 -

I have to wait until my car sells anyway, which seems like it could also be a long wait!
I just can't wait to have a 50cm carbon fiber dinky toy! It'll be so small and light (and hopefully fast) which excites me a lot.0 -
I test rode both of those last week at Canyon showroom in Koblenz, as has already been said the difference between the two will be hardly noticeable to the likes of most of us, both were truly lovely.
TDF discount now that I didnt know aboutRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -
TDF discount is not gaurenteed but canyon uk say its likely (may not apply to the CF though)0

Last year it was about £100 off with free accessories thrown in. The year before it was about 40% off most frames and bikes. As they are so popular now the discounts they offer are reducing.0 -
I don't think I've seen a single person riding a Canyon around London...yet. Plenty of Specialized, Cannondale, Bianchi, Cube, Trek etc.0

Just in case anyone sees it for sale, I had a Canyon CF 8.0 SLX road bike stolen last week from my home. It's a 62cm frame and a 2010 model with Citec 3000 Aero S wheels. Hasn't appeared on Gumtree yet, probably because you only see them at races or locked up at home. Post here if it turns up, I'm devastated.0

sorry to hear about your stolen bike but out of interest what is your inseam length? as Im a 90cm and was looking at either a 60 or 62cm canyon frame.
thanks.0 -
96cm, but if you go to the Canyon website, they have a frame-sizing guide.0

I'm really to sorry hear that! I had my £1000 hybrid stolen a month ago and I was gutted as it wasn't insured. I can't imagine having a £2500 bike nicked!
Will it be covered by home contents insurance?0 -
Loss adjuster has just been (as it was 3 bikes, not just the Canyon). He seemed confident that we were covered (it was locked shed with 6 locks and bars on the windows, not visible from outside garden) - it's just up to haggling details. Got a really good deal on 2 of the bikes, so it'll be hard to replace like for like. Who knows what they'll come back with though? A nice happy shopper bike from Wheelies Direct...0

Don't forget if you have a British Cycling Racing Licence you get €300 off a frameset!

I believe it's just the frame that's discounted, actually if you buy a complete bike you pretty much get the frame for that price anyway, that is if you subtract the groupset, wheels etc.
I really really cant wait for mine and like the chap at the showroom said these CF & SLX are the same apart from the tiny increase in stiffness and a slightly different layup that most non pro wont notice, not that i could hear much of what he was telling me due to the voice inside my head that was giggling like a little school girl.
I have to say though the super record groupset was a joy to use, if only I could justify it .....Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.

Can't believe the price difference between this and the SLX is over £600 !!!
Is it even worth paying the extra for something that is 170 g or so lighter?0 -

I can. I would be %^&in homicidal. If I got hold of the guy I would cut his shaft in half, length ways. To OP, have you reported it to the pigs?0
