Hi,
I am new to biking and had a budget of £500 to buy myself a reasonable bike however a kind hearted friend of mine donated me a Giant Revel 3 http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bik ... 346/54071/ which was virtually brand new as he had inherited another bike from an uncle.
What I would like to do is upgrade this bike with money I have set aside and I am looking for some advice on which bits to add to the bike to make it a better spec.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

New 9/10 group. Prob deore or slx
Air forks
New set of wheels0 -
I'd get a Deore 10 speed groupset and disc brakes:

That's £234 with the 10% off, an amazing deal.
And new forks, ie Rebas:

A tool kit:

And some new folding tyres:

A little over your £500, but I can't see a better way of spending it, you'd have a bike that rivals most £1000 set ups. Sell the excess to recoup money.0 -
If it was my £500
Deore 10sp Groupset - £234
Rockshox Recon Silver Forks - £110
Superstar Tech2 EVO XC 135 Wheelset - £150
Total - £494
£6 left over for Haribo.
Win.0 -
Damn, I forgot tyres and tools.
Oh well, just go £60 over budget and stick a pair of Rocket Ron Evos from On-one on there and buy a 16-in-1 multi tool from Superstar.
Actually, you could probably make that £60 back from selling all the old bits on ebay.0 -
Yeah, but you've still got shitty tyres, and nowt to fix it or fit it with. If you do go that route a bb face would add to it too.0

bloody hell, that groupset is a good price isn't it?!?0
-
Certainly is as weight aside, it performs almost the same as an XT setup.0

could i take the chainrings off the deore and put them on my 9sp slx double and bash i have now?0
