I have the Comp and love it. It has a great frame and the spec is fantastic. The Sram Apex are great for someone new to cycling as you will never find a hill you can't go up.
Personally I would rather spend the extra $100 on pedals etc.Cube Agree GTC Pro

SRAM Apex is great and is actually only slightly less expensive than 105..
but on the Team you are getting a more complete 105 groupset.. whereas with the Comp you are getting a microshift front derailleur -> the only apex bits are the shifters and rear derailleur.
You're also getting better wheels, and a better frame with the team... so £100 seems pretty reasonable0 -
Yeah, £100 for the upgrades does seem reasonable.
One thing though, with a name like Northywales the Apex gearing could come in handy. They always do when I ever ride into N Wales.Cube Agree GTC Pro

Isn't 105 supposed to be able to run up to a 30 tooth cassette? so its not too far off.0 -
Thanks for all the feedback - after speaking to an excellent guy at the store, im going to save a few quid and get the Comp version.
As a total newbie to road biking he thinks it would be better suited...esp the easier gearing. Then see where i am in 12 mths.
And i can use the spare to buy bottle, computer, lycra and upgrade to clipless after a month of riding it on flats to get used to the roadbike positioning and handling....all sounds very good advice to me!!!
Big shout to Mark @ Llannelli halfords
BTW - its a real bargain imo
£900 down to £700
Then i got 10% off last night when ordered...so £630
And now to use the Brit Cycling vouchers for a further 10% off the £700
So i make that £567 !!!0 -
I am sure you will be made up with the comp (as I am sure you would have with the Team)
That is an amazing price for a bike of that spec. I was made up to get it for £720.Cube Agree GTC Pro

Just had exactly the same dilemma, using the same discounts as you. Couldn't make up my mind so in the end the showed my 5 year old son pictures of both and he went for the Team (preferred the wheels). I am sure your reasoning is more sound than mine, but at £648 it's an absolute steal IMO. Enjoy the bike, be interesting to compare stories of how we get on.0

actually - im getting both made up and will see them in the flesh and take one home on Sunday...i admit the team looks nicer than the comp...and ***only*** £648 quid from £1k, its a great great price!
PS
Whilst on the subject of good prices...also spotted halfords are doing a 3 for 2 on accesories
So also ordered a a topeak joe sport pump + 540 spd sl pedals + Cateye micro comp for £61 !
Shorts and shoes on the shopping list next (dhb/altura Bibs and Shimano R087 im thinking)....0 -
Hi. Could you please tell me how the Brit Cycling Vouchers work? I'm looking at a Boardman and their internet offers run out tomorrow. At the moment I can get the online price reduced by 10% using a discount code and then get a further 3% by going through a Quidco-type account. A further 10% would be awesome, but without joining British Cycling I can't find out if the offer would be any use. Thanks.0

Picked up my Team this week, looks fab, took it for a first spin this morning. Four miles in and there was a dreadful noise coming from the bottom bracket, back to Halfords tomorrow.0

I'm fancying one of these two and struggling to decide which one. Think the team is currently my preferred choice. Just need to find a decent halfords to get one from now! Can anyone recommend a Halfords in the North West? Blackpool /Lancaster way preferably, but happy to drive for good service0

I also was looking at these 2 bikes and with the discounts you guys have mentioned i think i will go for the Team.
Only thing is Northywales had said he managed to get it reduced from £900 down to £700 plus other discounts, but i can only find it reduced from £950 to £850 which is £150 more and pushes it out of my price range. Has the bike gone up in the last few weeks?0 -
It's still 900 on the Halford's website, discounts make it cheaper.0

Halfords have at present got £200 of both these bikes. Previously they only knocked off £200 from the Comp from time to time. First time I have seen £200 off the Team. (offer on Team ends 16th. May) With the ongoing 10% NUS discount that makes the Comp £629 and the Team £719.
When I bought the Comp a month ago I ordered 'reserve and buy'' which allows the NUS discount (I am not actually a member). I then tried to 'add' my 10% British Cycling discount (which is a printout) when I went to collect, (British Cycling don't offer discount on gift vouchers any more). The till wouldn't accept the extra British Cycling discount. I suspect you can't use two different discounts on a single purchase. In the end I had to use the British Cycling voucher as I was asked for NUS membership no. I have seen from another forum that proof of NUS membership is not normally required. Only because I was trying for two discounts highlighted the NUS voucher discount which shows on the 'reserve and buy' printout.
If it becomes a problem the answer is to order and pay online, using the NUS discount, as there is no provision when ordering to input a NUS membership no. I did this when ordering an Edge 800 and got it with the NUS discount.
Hope this helps.0 -
The Comp at £629 and the Team at £719 make both bikes an unbelievable deal. If anyone is looking for a first serious road bike and are happy to shop at Halfords then I think it will be hard to beat these two deals.Cube Agree GTC Pro

I have been reading posts on this forum for some time trying to decide whether to change my bike or not.
I had a Carrera TDF that I bought on e bay about 2 years ago. After reading this thread I decided to bite the bullet and buy the Team. I has also looked at the Giant Defy 1, but my LBS was struggling to get my size.
I am very pleased with my purchase. I have managed 3 rides in my first week, and have managed to PB (according to Strava) on every ride.
It has renewed my interest in cycling and cannot believe the difference it has made to my speed.
All I can say is that if you are considering buying one, go for it!0
