Shimano Ultegra chain fit with XT cassette??

OK simple question, I bought a Shimano Ultegra 9-speed CN-HG93 chain as my old one was getting stretched. I have a full XT set but the first turn of the pedal lead to some wild chain jumping on the rear cassette.

First of all, have I got the right chain?? If so, sounds like a new cassette... :(

9 speed chain and cassette? Shouldn't be an issue really, the chain might be directional though, not sure if this would cause these issues, could quite easily and most likely be the cassette being worn/the cassette and chain being at different stages of wear.
  • Thanks - I suspected so, nothing in chain instructions about direction.

Considering a replacement cassette - whats a good option? Thinking about going SRAM as this one has lasted no time at all

HG93, Ultegra and XT chains are all one and the same. Sounds like the cassette is knackered.

I'd recommend XT casettes, having them on both my bikes.

And none of the 9 speed chains are directional, just the Dynasis ones.

    New cassette for you.
