shipping a bike to usa, anyone done it?

has anyone shipped their own bike to the usa? I spend quite abit of time at my sisters in miami and would like to ship my own bike there to use when i visit. I wont be bringing it back, i want to keep it there. I have taken a bike on flight with me before but that was about 4 years ago with us airways and they seem to charge alot more now.
Any advice appreciated.
