Worn cartridge bearings - safe to ride?

My rear Planet X AL30 wheel has approx 1mm of lateral play in the cartridge bearings when flexing the wheel on the bike. It also sounds very slightly rough too.

Is it safe to ride on for a while until I can get it fixed?

Cheers,

it shouldn't do any damage to the rest of the bike, it's only the internal bearings that are wearing. but does it rub on the brake blocks? 1mm may not cause a big drag on the brakes, but i think it may cause pulsating if you brake whilst cornering. I've never experienced this and not heard of it either. but it seems that this might happen under some circumstances.

I ran mine into the ground over the winter. They needed changing but it made more sense to me to leave it till the worst of the winter weather was over. Didn't notice any degradation or danger during that period. Fulcrum 5, if it matters.

Tighten you skewer right up - will take a bit of the play out assuming there is not a bearing pre-load adjuster like higher end Mavics? (Kyrsillium \elite up)
