rear derraileur issues?

basically, after aride a couple of weeks ago ihad gear change issues and ended up taking it to lbs for set up. before i did i noticed that the rear derraileur was bent so bent it back. lbs just setup the gears and replaced one inner cable and all was well. been off road again today at cannock and about halfway round exactly the same thing happens again. check and the derraileur is bent in towards the wheel again. is this likely to be mere coincedence or could something else be at fault?

ps could do with being armed with some idea before i take it back to lbs in case they try to fob me off.0

If the hanger is bent (the bit the derailer bolts to), it will need replacing.0

will double check but doesnt look like it. i wonder if the derraileur is weakened somewhere?0

this is what makes me wonder what isactually bending. maybeit is the hanger? anyway of telling other than seeing a crease etc?0

The best way is to get a new one ;-). Very diffivult to straighten out.0

if this is happening with the same hanger that has not had a bump, then there is something weak in the system, probably the mech hanger.
make sure you lay the bike on it's left side when putting it on the ground.
also, when in the lower gears (bigger cogs) it can look as if the hanger is bent but it is not.
mis-shifting can be due to a number of other factors.
when you get a new mech hanger, buy two and keep one in your riding backpack.--

Possibly - chain is too short, and you've used the big ring + big cog. That can bend a mech like spaghetti.
Having said that, you could tear the mech right off with a chain that was too short.0 -
ill get a new hanger and try that then. it seems too much of a coincedence that it has happened twice. the mech was pushed right in towards the wheel i just gently pulled it outwards and it did stay there, but havent ridden anywhere since.0

Hanger definitely looks bent, new one required!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

quick one, when i fit anew hanger will the gears need ressetting asd they have been set with the old bent hanger?0
-
also, any specific hanger or are shimano ones all the same? cheeerrs, chris0

Gears may require a tweak and hangers are frame specific, so a dealer of your frame manu is where to start.0
-
betd do many mech hangers cheaper than the frame manufacturers prices.

I alway thought that, but looking at specialised ones, they are 19 quid, I picked up one in Evans for 15, and still felt robbed.0
