Extra Long Chain
Hi Folks
Anyone know where I can buy a 9 speed chain longer than the 112 - 116 link standard items available from Sram, Shimano, KMC, etc.
My son has a Giant CRS 4.0 commuter that I am renovating, using Shimano 105 9 speed triple bits and a Deore 11/28 cassette.
As the wheelbase on the frame is quite long and big ring is a 52 I need a chain with about 120 links.
Is the only solution buying two chains and using two joining links?
I don't want to spend a fortune as the bike is only used on 5 mile commutes.
cheers
Ned

You could try your LBS, most often they have to cut down a chain when they fit a new one, that part isnt much use to them so I am sure if you bought a new chain from them they would happily give you a piece.0

Agree with the above post. I always have cut off bits of chain lying around so figure your LBS will have loads and should throw something in with your chain purchase. You won't need connector links, just use a chain tool to join the chains together. I can recommend the Chain Brute as it is small enough to fit in a saddle bag and it works good enough for me. Don't forget to make sure you know which link well to put the chain in (one to pop/push pins, one to free off tight links).0

Depends - many narrow chains have swaged rivets where the heads are 'flared' to give them extra strength - when you push the pin through is makes the hole in the side-plate bigger and therefore if you rejoin by simply re-fitting the pin, then it is no longer as strong.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
