I built a rat bike up for commuting on and going to the pub last year and was going to 'upgrade the frame to the vulcan i have lying around
I was going to strip down my old steel frame but now i really don't want to, thrashed it around this week and it's so much fun and i was only using it as a commuter with to short a stem  but the more i ride it the less i want to strip it, so now I'm thinking of upgrading it.
singlespeed, rigid and slicks off road are a right hoot, came off in big puddles twice and nearly went into the canal this morning
I'm now going to do it up a bit and it will no doubt become another bike that i wont leave lightly locked up in town
why cant I just ride a rat bike with out wanting to improve on it :x bikes are like a disease!!!
so does a rat bike stop being a rat bike when you upgrade it from the original bits and decide you want to make it better, now I'm eyeing up some of zocchis for it

I always want to turn my commuter bike (a vulcan) into a fun hardtail for occasional messing round off road but sense takes the better of me0

sounds like my maxlight, which I'm now using as winter hardtail if its way too muddy to the HD truly caked up (we have seriously boggy trails in winter). since taking it to uni, its had a whole new 1x10 drivetrain, new bars and brakes, and will probably become a 456c over the summer... so much for it being a cheap winter bike!!0

The only thing stopping me going the whole way is theft, so i guess you could say i'm in pocket because of bike theft...0 -
yup same here  i just cant help it and somehow justify it with well I can make a rat bike out of the pieces and so it goes on and so on
it just annoys me that you cant have anything nice with out spending so much on insurance or worrying about some git stealing itworst moment ever...
