hi, im looking for a new freeride bike, just to be clear i am only a beginner but i want something that i can keep using as i keep improving. I know this is an unreal budget but i cant go above £650-£700 as i am only 15. I have been looking at the mongoose salvo sport, comp and elite 2011 models, but i not sure if the extra money is worth it and i dont really know much about oil shocks ( but i can learn ). So which would would people recommend for me? any other ideas are very welcome thanks

Non of these are freeride bikes, xc/trail bikes at most. I'm afraid you need to double your budget to get a new (reduced) freeride bike.0

What SS said. You won't get anything new for that price. Plenty of used bikes knocking around for that budget though. Have a look on pinkbike or southern downhill.0

660 dollars from what I can see - ie you have to import from the US. IS there a European site?

On a low budget you might be better off with a hardtail. Something like a Charge Blender maybe:

Yeah - was gonna suggest that. You can get a decent little DJ bike for that budget"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Charge Blender's are awesome. Solid steel 4x frame with great geometry.
Giant STP is a pretty solid hardtail, great as a jump bike but bombproof as a downhill hardtail, you can even put on a 140mm fork without any problems.
On-One 456 Summer Season is really solid & pretty decent as a freeride / downhill bike. mine has taken a shocking amount of abuse, everything from downhill races to big hucks at the local quarry & a bit of dirt jump. Even used it for an XC ride this morning.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Looking to build a little 4X/Jump/town/fun bike up and had my heart set on the Nukeproof Snap. Anyone know where I could buy a Blender frame?"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Evans appear to have a ti on in stock but I think you're best bet would be to keep an eye on ebay, they come on there quite often.
Why not the snap?
The Evil Faction might be a good alternative as well seeing as CRC have them for 50% off:

Snap has a weak frame, like all Nukeproof frames.
Evans have got the steel Blender as well. It's a proper nice frame.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Yeah just followed a link to Evans but didn't show a price and couldn't 'buy' it. Will have another go.
A jump bike with a weak frame doesn't sound good :shock:"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Evans are only showing the Ti one (frame only)"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

The blender would be my first choice as well. I was looking into building something up when I had some parts left over recently. My top three were blender, faction, snap but then I ended up selling the bits I had as I couldn't justify another bike at the time.0

To the OP - what about this;
Santa Cruz Chameleon - £600

Sorry OP to jump on your thread.
So Rockmonkey & oodboo;
So if a steel Blender is not in the mix -
You'd go for the the Faction (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=41102)
over the Snap (http://www.bikeoutlet.co.uk/products/Nukeproof_Snap_4X_Frame_Yellow_2011-1924-29.html) ?"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Depends. The snap has a slacker head angle so for blasting round trails etc then I'd got for that. It's also a lot lighter. If I was after something more for jumping then I'd go for the faction.
As a freeride HT I'd go for the Snap for the slacker HA. I haven't heard bad reports about them being weak like Rockmonkey mentions.0 -
Yeah more of a fun bike for round town, BMX track, maybe the odd trail (to the pub) etc just for peeing about on really.
Reckon the lighter, slacker Snap might be more fun. Will be putting an old 105mm Marzocchi MX on it, some Sun DS2 rims and prob set it up 1x9. Cheap & cheerful is the name of the game"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes
