I went to use a chain splitter the other day, its only a cheap one but the chain does not fit between the two little guides on the splitter so pretty useless really. Do chain splitters come size specific or is it this one is cheap rubbish and any ideas on the best ones to have in the tool bag for just in case.

Cheers guys

Chains come in varieing widths, some really wide. You need one specific for your setups. Look for one that screws into the chain. Or get a master link and make do

    One of these

Tiny enough to carry, works well (better than my bigger tool box one), can buy replacement pins (although haven't managed to bend it yet).
Even using master links you still need a chain tool to shorten new chains, and useful for sorting out broken links trailside.
