Servicing a gravity dropper post.....

Hello :D

My gravity dropper seatpost has decided to stop working - it goes down (so to speak  ) but won't lock out and just pings back up instantly. I've used it for about a year, including the mud-fest that Morzine last summer, so I think it's probably just full of mud and cr@p to be honest.

Are they easy to take apart and is servicing it something that I should even be considering? I have a limited talent when it comes to mechanics - I am good at taking stuff apart but not so good at putting it back together again :(

Anyone done this? Is it fairly easy?

Yep very basic, Info on their site, I recommend a water proof grease on new application. Try turning the collar on the top of the stem under the boot, 1/2 turn looser from tight works fine for me.
Jag wire cable, Teflon coated is smoother as well, Check your cable first as that is the most liable to contamination because of their badly designed lever which lets moisture into the cable.
    Don't think, BE:

Thanks very much for your reply. Didn't get the chance to look at this at the weekend but will have a look at their website and see if I can give it a go. I guess the worse that can happen is that I mess something else up, in which case I can just get them serviced anyway. But thinking positively it could save me a few pounds (which I can then spend on some nice new carbon bars :D:lol: )!

    Cheers :D

Yes, defo give it a go, you'll be surprised how simple they are to rebuild and all the bits are available. If you get stuck then GD themselves are very helpfull (via email) . I just gave my Turbo Multi a quick strip last week and if I can do it.... especially being ex-Soton myself........ 'ampshire born, 'ampshire bred..... you know the rest!

    Hello,

Well, after further investigation I have worked out what's wrong with my gravity dropper - the part of the mechanicsm that is welded / glued to the seatpost itself has literally come off :(

In my option this obviously isn't a servicing issue but a manufacture problem - i've had the post for less than a year, no crashes damaging the post and I am not exactly a heavyweight rider! I brought the post from a well known internet retailer so have emailed them requesting that this is sorted out asap.

    Fingers crossed :D

    What model.... turbo/classic?

I would try GD direct (email to states) as they are usually very helpfull if your supplier does not come through.
I bought my Turbo Multi from a 'less well known german online supplier' and bits were missing when it arrived.... they claimed the bits were not supposed to be there....doh.... email to GD and they sent the missing parts kit from states.

    Turbo.

I emailed the supplier direct and they seem happy to take up the case, although I understand it'll be a refund rather than an exchange if they are in agreement with the fault. Fine by me as I can then get a new one :D

If I don't get any joy from them I will certainly go to GD direct.

You can get all the bits from the manufacturers website as well. So if you get a refund, you could spend a little of it on the parts you need direct from the States - and the rest on a carbon handlebar ;-)
