Shouldn't Boonen have learnt this stuff by now? Tomorrow you won't see Tony McCoy with a list of the Grand National fences gaffer taped to his here's neck because he knows where he's going.

Is Tony McCoy in the saddle for 7hrs?

He doesn't even propel the bloody thing.

(anyway the route changes every year - slightly).

    what do those numbers mean?

Cobbled sector number.....distance into race.......length of sector
    Colour coded according to difficulty.

Anyone know why Quick Step don't just use a radio like everyone else?

Anyone know why Sky Team didn't use a radio like everyone else to organize themselves?

A picture is worth a thousand words.
In both cases. Even if you talk via radio...

They do. But sometimes radios don't work. Also what about the riders who are maybe behind the front of the race, important for them to know what's coming up, the team can't be on the radios for them.

Well, for one, Rick would have you believe Boonen is faster than radio waves, so it wouldn't work.

They win it a lot. And if taping something to the top tube is what they do, I'm not going to argue.

This must be pre race as I definitely saw him have the time to take his sharpie out and tick them off.

Dave Harmon mentioned Boonen's list on Sunday and the tv camera showed it as well. Of course some people don't watch the race as they are too busy tweeting about it!

Pity that they didn't show the Sky top tube... to busy, of course! (tweeting or what? )

Boson Hagen finished about 7 and a half minutes behind Boonen, a quick calculation puts the line between success and failure at approximately 5.5km.

Think they might have trouble painting that on their top tube.

    Marginal gains. Clearly.

A lot of teams have those lists guys, it's far from uncommon for the classics, be it cobbles, bergs, climbs or whatever...Have a look at all the galleries that have been posted!

The Sky malarky is an interesting thing though

Welll... It is not question of uncommon list but it is question of what is your goal in the race.
To win it or to think about winning.
One simple piece of paper (not original at all) that helps to win versus
full list of propaganda (malarky as you said) that didn't work for four guys to organize chase to catch one.

No, I know. People were questioning why Boonen had it all written down as opposed to being told over radios. Basically, it's hard for a piece of paper to break. Radios can fail, run out of batteries, fly out of pockets, ear pieces can come out etc etc...

Thought this was going to be a Jose Ibarguren thread.

That Sky "thin blue line" thing wasn't a new thing for Paris-Roubaix. It has been on their bikes, and on their jerseys all year. They couldn't catch Boonen because he's better than Matt Hayman.

Very sadly this was a non-fact
