29er and a full susser

hi all, basically ihave two of my friends that both want new bikes.one wants the full susser, the other the 29er. firstly, the lad wanting a full susser has all but decided on the boardman team from halfords for £1000.is there anything else that can compare at this price or is that about the best he can get?

second lad wants the cannondale trail sl2 29er which is currently on sale at pauls cycles for £670. any better options than this?
