Front Mech for Inbred 29er?

Hello,
Just in the process of building up an Inbred 29er with parts from previous bike - i've currently got a shimano deore LX front mech on there, shimmed down to fit.
Only problem is the lack of clearance, the deore lx mech has all the pivot etc behind it and that, combined with the effect of the shim around the seat tube means that there's only a few mm between mech and tyre. Rideable but going to clog with the first sign of any mud.
So - can anyone recommend a front mech (triple) that would give plenty of clearance - and is it possible to use a sram mech on a shimano shifter?
Thanks
Jim

Sounds like you need a bottom swing.
Sram front will work fine with Shimano shifters.I don't do smileys.
