I am looking to spend around £400 on upgrades to my 2010 trek 8500.
I am torn between upgrading the brakes from the old xt's (never really got on with them) to new xtr race. Or wheels from bontrager rl's....but not sure which wheels to get.
I have already done the easy upgrades (bars - bontrager xxx, post - bontrager xxx, saddle - bontrager rxl carbon and tyres - racing Ralph's) so am really after some suggestions and help.
I mainly use the bike for xc.
Thanks in advance,
MGS

Out of the box, the bike is excellent, except for the crappy Shimano BB.
If you have not already, replace it with a (I have never looked back) http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id258.html
If you do not like the brakes, you could try either Formula The Ones or Hope V2 etc.
Otherwise got for a nice Hope wheelset, Pro II SP with EX721 rims.

Would an upgraded BB give noticeable improvents other than durability/weight?0

The link is for a 2009; I thought yours was a 2010???
The 2010 is a completley new bike from the 2009; one new feature was the Trek BB91 press fit BB. The OEM BB is the crappy Shimano press fit which lasts about 2 revolutions, if you are lucky.0 -
If your BB is still OK no point in changing it. I doubt you'd notice. Obviously has lasted more than two revolutions.I don't do smileys.

I was a year out when I checked the spec but similar kit. Going to go for the xtr race brakes as they are quite cheap on merlin at the moment.
Will then have to persuade the OH that wheels need replacing in the future.0
