Baaa, had some issues with my chain going loose when backpeddling and after messing about myself for a while trying to adjust derailers etc I left it into the local bike shop. They told me there is some wear on the freehub body and I need to look at replacing it. I only got the bike in November - been riding it 3 times a week for 1-2 hours each time - a few small jumps but mostly just rooty stuff. Should something like that need replaced already? Whats the chances of chain reaction covering the costs?

My LBS told me that 1-2 hrs, 3x a week was excessive usage for a MTB when my wheel disassembled itself. They did retension it for free though.

What freehub is it? I think it's over 18 months since I last replaced mine.

6 months seems unreasonable, but no unusual to me. Maybe it's one of those components that the manufacturer penny pinched on.

Depends on the freehub - some you can take apart and service, some you can't. Some last years and years with no hassle.
