After talking about wheels I now find myself looking at them! I would definitely spend £300 but could rise towards £600 if the right product and deal was to be had. Any suggestions?

    Mavic Kyrsillium Elites, Campagnolo Zondas, Fulcrum 5/3.

    Then a 3...2...1... for a suggestion of handbuilts like open pro on a ultegra hub or the like..

    Got the Kyrsillium Elites myself and have been very good - was great to be able to swap out the frehub body when I moved to camag. That said the Zondas are just as light, very solid and cheaper. Didnt get them as I was being vein and didnt want Campag wheels with Shimarno grouppo... I now use a carbon Campag group and regret it a tad :oops:

    Both cracking wheels - I think both are about the same quality and weight, so whichever you go more mad for!

    Well you can either go for 'race' or training tyres. Race tyres will only last 3-5k and be slightly more suseptable to puntures, but are much lighter, have lower rolling resistance and feel generally more lively. Training tyres feel sluggish by comparison but last the distance.

    I use Michelin Pro3 Race on mine with lightweight tubes - massively better than OE spec. The overall weight saving is significant too, and no flats in 3k.

    i get very worried about getting flats etc and i seem to be very bad at hitting pot hole etc (needed wheel truing few weeks ago now new spoke needed) so i have to get a better mindset for avoiding such things! will have a look at those tyres

    Budget no object*: handbuilt, OpenPro on Dura Ace.

    Ultimate lightness does not mean the ultimate quality - there are lighter wheelsets but none better in quality.

    * i.e. in your budget!

    lol i say £600 but i would have to have a moment probably to spend that much! i don't really know how much to spend makes how much of a difference. thats why i say between £300-£600 obviously £300 would be nicer but is spending double going to make a difference worth spending.

    I have looked at a few things now and probably wouldn't spend anywhere near £600 I may spend £300 and get some new tyres. I'm not a club cyclist or anything so just sportives etc I try to go out about 4 times a week, but still want to have nicest better bike and be faster etc

    Take a look at these for £299 Shimano RS80. Really good, lighweight wheels. Make a nice wooshing noise when you go fast and look nice. What more do you want?!? :)

    I have a brand spanking new pair of these;

    They came off my SL4 Tarmac ( http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/bc/SBC ... cname=Road ), took them off straight away as I had a set of cosmics to go on the bike. Not been ridden at all. You can have them for £350. Rather not post though as I have no wheel box pm me if interested.

    They DON'T have the same hub as dura ace, the RS80's have an ultegra hub.

    But they DO have the same dura-ace rim.

    Ah yes I was close lol wrong way round :-) still good though, I have RS 20's which are great value also, I use them on winter bike but good enough to race on.

    For something a bit different you could look at American Classic 420 Aero 3's.

    Have a 34mm deep rim and flat spokes. Also have really thin hubs with ceramic bearings.

    They get rave reviews if you google them too.

    Unless I am mistaken less than £500 for the dura ace clinchers - you have to wait for them however!

    £530 at Merlin. (Log in first - discount is shown in the checkout). If they're out of stock at Tweeks, i know for a fact the earliest is mid may for the next batch of these to come from madison.

    I have a set of these, but they're currently waiting for the new bike.
