I need a longer hose to move my Elixir CR rear brake onto a new frame. Can I use braided (like the Goodridge kit) or must I use the Avid's own kit.... I remember some debate a while back about not able to use braided hoses with some Avid brakes....

You can use a braided hose, but I find them to be a PITA with frame slots etc. Better to stick witha good ol' hose. Clarkes do a good set with all the fittings for not too much money.

    Aren't all hoses braided?

Sorry, you're right bennett_346, I was thinking that horrible segmented stuff.

Perhaps I'm using the wrong terminology.... what I call 'braided' is the type with the woven metal braid around the hose body.... I have these on my h/t (Hopes).... but the Avid's are different... perhaps they are braided internally (kevlar or some other strengthener?).... cable guides should not be any issue as they are zip tied

Bennet is being pedantic - braided is accepted as the woven metal braid on the outside - get it if you want bling, waste of money if you want performance, as it makes no difference.
