12mile MTB vs Cyclocross Commute

Well this morning was my first commute to work on my new 2012 Specialized Tricross. I had previous completed the same route using my GT Avalanche 3.0 mountain bike to test if it would be suitable for the thinner tyres. I think the wind was more against me today but that may have just been me going much faster  I have done no training in between, and they were a few weeks apart, so my fitness should be similar. It was 20mins faster!

I had to stop at about mile 4 today for a drink which was in my pannier since I left my allen keys at work so couldn't fit the cage, so I think tomorrow without that I will get under the 60min barrier 8)

I think I halved the time of my 15 mile cycle commute some years ago when I went from a mountainish bike to a road bike. the first time I did the journey it took 40 mins as oppose to 1hr20. on a daily basis it took longer as I wasn't fresh. cycling 150 miles a week takes it out of you when you are also running and swimming.
I now only have a 11 or 12 mile cycle so I can chose whetherb I push the pace or just take it easy and I don't have to do it every day.
I also now have the same bike as you and find it much better for my present commute as I am using some fairly rutted country lanes and a pice of track that used to be the road.0
