Take it you're poor and bitter or both then?
I am neither of these in fact.
I could happily afford to buy numerous bikes as expensive as this one but I never will. This is because I am not an elite level road racer nor,I suspect, is the OP,ipso facto the purchase of this bike would be a complete waste of my money.
And despite earlier comments comparing bling bikes to flash sports cars there is,frankly, no analogy there.
The high performance car can be made to travel at a competitively fast speed by anybody irrespective of their physical fitness. The bike can not.
I realise this advice may not be to everyone's liking but I am trying to give sound, honest advice to my fellow cyclists in basically saying 'Save your money'. Unless you are racing at a high level £2.5k is the most you should really be paying for a road bike.0 -

What a load of tosh - why bother buying a car that can go faster the the speed limit then. Why bother buying anything thats more expensive the what you actually need - don't buy a TAG watch just get a 5 quid one
Spend you're own money on what you want not on what will suffice to do the job0 -

You are merely trying to justify your own vanity in buying an expensive bike you can't ride fast enough.0 -
You're merely acting a tool because it comes naturally to you then.0

In your original comment you were not offering advice, you asked wether the OP ability was justified in owning a bicycle of that quality.
The tone of your the question was unpleasant and unnecessary, and in my opinion anyway, It's not any of your business whether the OP's ability justifies owning the bike. Regardless of whether you can afford a bike like that or not your comment came across as sour grapes.Trek Madone 3.5

Sturmey, this is a bit like that other thread where you said tights were for wimps.0

I am shocked at the adverse reaction to Sturmey's comments. I'm sure he meant well really. I know him as an easy going family man.
