Baldies and sun protection!

Hi

Not sure which forum to put this in but as many sportives exceed the claimed duration of factor 50 sun cream I thought Id try here

OK so Im follicularly challenged :)

For 2-3 I slaver sun cream on my head and ride safely wearing a helmet
Its the longer rides when I worry about getting burnt

What do other baldies do which works?
Carry sun cream is the most obvious but stopping to putting it on a sweaty head regularly isnt ideal
Or does anyone recommend wearing a headscarf?

Ive considered them but arent sure about how breathable they are for 6h on a baking day and their image can be questionable :)

Althouh a small number of riders can carry it off

Cheers!

Surely this is the ideal excuse to wear a cycling cap under your helmet.

I follow advice given a few years ago on this forum and use Riemann P20 sunscreen. Lasts all day for me and done its job on a very sunny Etape. Been a baldy for 35 years.

Although not a baldy, I too have used the P20 for the past few years.

Not fully bald yet, but burn easy.
I usually use the Boots Extreme stuff (blue tube) and currently have Banana Boat Sport.
Any of the extreme/sports stuff seems to work fine for me. Factor 25-30 seems ok too. I've been out for 12hrs+ in very hot France, Italy etc

Get a clear spray sun lotion, rather than a cream. You can just spray it on your head and don't even need to rub it in - it also feels quite cooling when you do it!

Been bald for the last 10 years I wore a "buff" tube scarf in summer for a good few years. without this sounding like an advert, beware of cheap imitations and free give aways. I found they can cause uncomfortable sweating. More recently I have started wearing traditional cycling caps, which I found to work even on hottest of days. I think this is also the "coolest" option!

You don't mention winter, but I find the cold is a real problem I got a Rapha Belgian style cap with ear cover in one of their end of season sales. It works a treat.

I don't use anything in the UK. As I rarely wear a hat my head becomes used to the sun and gets a bit of a tan. I always wear a helmet, and have never burnt. Abroad on holiday I put on suncream for long days in the sun.

Parasol 25+ sport . Put it on once and it lasts all day, use it for windsurfing, doesn't wash off .
never been slightly sore , even in Tobago.
online from irishbodycare, expensive but worth it.

Just a quick regards sun tan on the nut, when I sweat in warm/hot weather on big climbs especially abroad the sweat and sun cream tends to run down and in my eyes and stings. Not a problem if you have the team car nearby with plenty of water in biddons to wash away but for us amateurs not so brilliant. I have a few of the caps as shown above they are thin with a tail (Havelock) like a bandanna but doesn't need tying up, just the job.

    I use a Buff.

As has been mentioned there are cheap imitiations that really don't do the job. I got my Buff for £10-15. I appreciate that it may not carry it off fashionably, but it's a lot better than the sunburn I've had. And it's hidden under a cycling helmet anyway!

It has the added bonus of having a bit that hangs down at the back over my neck.

+1 for a buff, although i might invest in a cap just to see what it's like & how comfy it is.

my Assos cap arrived from Wiggle today, looks the bizniz! However, when riding with it under a helmet with the peak down i found this noticeably interferes with vision & instead of having a clear sight of the road ahead & all the traffic, hazards & potholes i have half a peak & anything below it. So i just flipped the peak up & that sorted it. Just not great when descending as it doesn't do much for airflow.

What does everyone else do about this?
