I've officially joined the world of commuting to work on a bike.
Picked up my Whyte Stirling on Easter Friday!!!!
Absolutely love it! Very fun to ride around and maintain a fast pace, also love the disc brakes
I was wondering if anyone with a Whyte Portobello/Cambridge/Stirling/Montpelier has tried fitting this bike with the Crud Roadracer Mk2 kit OR any other mud guard for that matter? http://www.crudproducts.com/products/roadracer/
I'd prefer not to fit guards in an attempt to keep bike "lean" looking, but for the wet days would be keen to stay clean, whilst not toally ruining the look of my Whyte and these guards looks fairly nice.

What width tyres? I've got a new Carrera gryphon. Flat bar road bike with discs and 28s.I fitted crud 2s on it because I had them on my old gryphon which was nicked. Fits rear wheel fine, although i did have to bodge slightly with cable ties on old bike due to position of disc. Not on the new one though. However, fitted on old bike front wheel which only had a 25, but fractionally lacking clearance for the 28 on new one....don't know why it's fine on back but not front.
Nice looking bike btw.... But for gawds sake take the dork disc off....0 -
Haha @ the dork disc, have taken it off just now! Thanks PBo! Was thinking something wasn't right with the look of the bike.....been soo busy riding it around non stop for the last 3 days!
Tyres are Maxxis Detonator, 700 x 28c.Whyte Stirling 2012 - mine since 6/4/12!0 -
So if 28s probably same problem. Just not quite enough clearance on the front....probably bodgable with cable ties though....0

Hi there, I use a SKS X blade on my Stirling. As it locks on the seat post sits really well with no slippage I got the 700c one from Evans cycles on a price match deal. As you say the bike is awesome have changed tyres to Continental Gatorskin Ultra they seem be better than the Maxxis ones fitted. Will try and post a pic of it tomorrow. PS excuse my ignorance but what is a dork disc? Sure when you tell I will still have one fitted!0

Dork Disk = Spoke protector, the excess bit of plastic between cassette and spokes.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Hey guys
Ended up getting the Crud RacePac for my Stirling, seems to be good soo far, just in time for the bad rainfall recently!
The guard doesn't fit the way it should because the cabling on the downtube, need to some how do some DIY to get the guard to not press against the gear cable (I think its affecting the gear changes). Anyone have any tips?
Here's my bike with the guards on

The problem with those is that they don't protect the drivetrain (or your feet!) - if you are commuting in weather like we've been having lately, you'll end up with massively cacked up mechs and chain in no time which all reduce it's life.
I didn't think you'd get roadracers under those 28s and the Cruds are neither as effective or sleek as ordinary mudguards. I'd get a set of black SKS mudguards for that.Faster than a tent.......0
