Grit sound in bottom bracket.

Just done some short (but muddy) rides in the peak district and I now have a gritty sound coming from (as far as I can make out) the chainring side of the bottom bracket when I rotate the cranks (even when the chain is mostly off). I have a SRAM GPX bottom bracket.
Any advice on what to do? (As in, is it worth taking to a bike shop to see what they think(.

The sound seems to be lessening. I am probably worrying over nothing. (New bike syndrome)0

Probably some grit around the BB/crank interface. Remove the cranks and clean it or just point a powerful (but not too powerful) hose at it to wash it out. The peaks are renowned for their grit eating up bikes.0

gxp bbs are poo.
ride it till it dies which wont be to long,, then replace it with a converted hope bb. hope bbs are bwtter and last longer and let you just swap the bearings out when they wear..
chris king do a conversion kit for their bbs to but chris king bbs are silly money...
thats assuming your bike will take a hope bb.. i dont think hope do pressfit type bbswww.bearbackbiking.com

If you don't know how to disassemble the drive train/bottom bracket an easy fix way of doing it is just spraying a decent amount GT-85 onto the bb spindle between your chainset and the bb cup. Give it a good spay and pedal through a few times then repeat. That's a temporary solution but the best would just be to service and re-grease it.0

I agree, GXP bbs do seem to be poor...they're the only bb I've ever had issues with. I agree with Del, replace it with something better once it's served its purpose.0

Cheers for the advice. I'll ride it into the ground and then see what my options are.
I only ride in the peak district for a month or so a year and it seems to be doing ok everywhere else (although we will see what happens when winter turns up) so it should last an ok time at least.0
