Kask Helmets?

Has anyone had any experience with them? The model I am looking at is the K50 mainly.

All I want in the helmet is to avoid a mushroom head, my Giro Monza looks terrible, just want something subtle and slim really. Does the K50 look good?

Thanks.

I can only speak for the Mojito but it is excellent. The fit is really comfortable for me (which doesn't help you!) but it is about the least mushroomy lid I've tried - and very light with it.

I think the Mojito is the smallest of the Kask helmets so it maybe worth trying one. The K10 is one size only so probably not a good call and the Vertigo excessively expensive (and larger than the Mojito).

  • I bought the K50 after owning a giro stylus for a few years. I find them both comfy and similar in fit but the ventilation far better on the KASK (a little too good in the winter). Also the adjustment is far superior, having the up/down movement makes it easy to get the support right where you want it.

I purchased a Vertigo just a few days back and worn it on two rides (30 miler and 60 miler).

I used to own the Uvex FP1 and it is hands down more comfortable and a better thought out helmet. I would not call it slim but its not a mushroom size and looks spot on with glasses and wears a cycling cap well under it.

The biggest thing is the quality of the construction of the strapping and the foam inserts. All added together makes it seriously comfortable. The rear adjustment helps with safety, so much so I can imagine if you had the helmet unbuckled and were to fall the helmet would still be secure on your head.

You get what you pay for and it is one impressive helmet.

Mine is white, so if you wish for something less in your face, try the black...
  • I'm looking at the Mojito now, do you think this is on par with the K10? It's £30 cheaper and looks to be smaller, which is what I mainly want :P

Just ordered a k10 from crc for £68! May be last years model but has the leather strap etc and i love the colours.

seen them in the flesh at the LBS and like others have said the build quality is excellent (better than the Specialized Prevail which costs £160).

Sky appear to think the Mojito on a par with the Vertigo given that they have replaced the Vertigo with the Mojito. If it's good enough for Cav and Wiggo...... Close fit is pretty apparent too.

One vaguely interesting thing if you are a bit anal about this sort of thing is that they appear to have left off the shell from under the brim of the helmet. That must be worth another 5-10 grams!

My new K10 arrived today and wow.

The fit is amazing especially round the back and there is no movement at all when its fitted correctly. Finish is as good as it gets and build quality is excellent. It even came with a bag, spare inserts and an under helmet head warmer. Amazing and makes the Specialized Prevail look positivley cheap IMO.
  • I've had the mojito for a couple of months now. I havnt owned a helmet that is anywhere near as good before. It light enough an comfortable enough to hardly realise you are wearing it. The roller adjustment on the back and leather strap allow for slight changes to get everything comfortable. I have a pretty big head and have found that normally helmets that fit end up being enormous. The Mojito is the opposite of that and keeps a low profile.
Only downside is all that venting is so effective its almost been too cold over the winter!

I've had my K10 for about 12 months now and, as seems to be the trend here, can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Brilliant quality, fit for me is great as well. Loads of adjustment available. I tried on MET and Giro before and tbh this was just head and shoulders above them.
