Swinley Forest
Swinley
I was annoyed yesterday morning so I’ve decided to vent. If it’s in the wrong place then I’d be glad if someone could direct me to the person responsible. I usually keep myself to myself, and enjoy a hobby I’ve been *slowly* building up skills for 20+ years.
Last week I was having more fun than usual as some kind soul had repaired the gulley table top such that the lip was more steep and uniform. Now as those who ride down there will know, that table top is short and thus anything other than the aforementioned at a responsible speed and you clear it to flat; less than ideal.
I thought Id head over practice table-tops and whips over the gulley table top yesterday. It’s been a hard week at work so its refreshing to enjoy such activities, except something stopped me. Somebody had removed the lip.
How on earth does removing that lip do ANY good? It encourages people who are simply not ready to attempt it, which someone did and fell off. It also makes the rhythm and pace for those capable completely wrong. It’s the worst outcome! Most people don’t ride it anyway.
It certainly makes people think twice, which they should as I’ve seen many a crash by those who attempt it before the alternation was made. Even with the lip it makes a rear wheel landing on the jump more likely, certainly a better outcome than the current incarnation. And this isnt to say Im against building skills up, Im doing that myself, but you dont just go flat out into the biggest jump, without building up, and hope for the best!
While I have been told new trails and jumps are prohibited due to the crown estate and liability, I would have thought it common sense that trails are properly maintained such that they flow. So why, JUST WHY did somebody screw it up. I fail to believe it’s anyone who knows about building trails. And if it’s the same person that builds the others, the mind boggles.
I’ll resist the temptation to go on a rant about personal responsbility in society.
I’ll resist the temptation to go on a rant about new car park charges.
And to who ever repaired the jump to geometric ideal, I sympathise
To who ever ruined the jump
