Hi
My front derailleur which is a Tiagra FD4403 triple is broke and this product is no longer available. My question is what can i use to replace it. The FD4503, 3403 (Sora) or even the 105 models look to big than mine. The rear plate looks quite deep compared to mine as mine looks rather like a double front derailleur. Im running a 52-42-32 chain ring and a 28-13 9 speed rear cassette. Most of those i looked at only do a 50T max but i have found on that will go up to a 53T but the rear guard looks to deep. does this matter or do u think that when changing up it will get in the way. I dont have a problem fitting myself as my local shop will take 3 weeks to fit it cause of a waiting list. Any ideas would be helpful

Triple derailleurs are designed to accomodate the spread of gears you have - I recently fitted a fd4503 (which claims to have a 50t max) to a 52/42/30 chainset with no problems.

Maybe yours was initially set up with a double derailleur? I have heard it's possible to get them to work with triple setups.

I tried to do this recently and failed. The inner cage caught on the middle ring. If you check the tech docs it needs a tooth difference of 11 or more between the outer and middle, 52-42 is 10. I'm in the process of canibalising my 50/39 double to replace the 52/42 rings of my triple.

Try positioning the derailleur a little higher, perhaps? Mine works fine.

Its braze on and was at the top of the slot. Couldn't even get it to work after swapping the 50/39 from my double. In the end I wedged a washer below the bolt to rotate the DR to the right a few degrees as the cage was catching towards the back end. I wonder if the seat tube angle is too small or the braze on is very subtly bent ?

So the derailleur wasn't sitting at the right angle when attached to the fitting? Interesting - I also used a braze on, but with a band on adaptor; the adaptor had to be rotated quite a bit to get the derailleur to sit in the right place.
