Over the weekend I removed my old FSA Powerdrive/Alphadrive BB and chainset from my Kona, and I started the process of replacing this with an SLX/BB70 setup using Hollowtech II.

I had my LBS face the BB shell and they also fitted the BB for me, but I was wanting to get my hands dirty as much as possible so opted to take over and fit the chainset and put the bike back together. However I've started to run into some issues/concerns about the fit of the cranks.

I've looked here for some inspiration:
- Park Tools http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/external-bearing-crank-systems-hollowtech-ii-megaexo-giga-x-pipe-x-type-campagnolo-ultra-torque
- Hope tech videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAqAanDsAKA
- Shimano Techdoc http://www.shimano.com/media/techdocs/content/cycle/SI/SLX/SI_6PZFA_002/SI-6PZFA-002-En_v1_m56577569830647029.pdf

But I'm still not sure. basically; the cranks were harder to fit than I expected, i.e. they didn't just slide right in despite being well greased. I discovered a number of sources that said a light tap with a nylon hammer would tease them in, and sure enough that did the trick.

Now I'm pretty sure I have the drive side of the cranks nicely up to the bottom bracket, but there doesn't look to be a lot of the shaft showing on the non-drive side, i.e. the shaft doesn't go all the way to the end of the non drive side crank arm.

I've taken some pictures to try and illustrate:

The drive side:

The non drive side: (note the gap between the edge of the arm and the shaft)

Hopefully this illustrates what I'm driving at? I just want to be sure (fill knowledge/experience gap!) before going back to the shop for help.

Let me know if more info is needed.

Thanks

Jon
