Hi, i am new to road bikes and looking to get one over the weekend if possible, i have been looking around and only really wanted to spend upto £500 max at the moment. i was told to look at halfords and decathlon as when i went to evans to have a look at there selection for that price the bloke pretty much said no chance. When i went to decathlon i saw the Triban3 which seems like a nice bike for £300, they also had a Viking San Remo for £400. i have read a lot about the Triban3 and it appears to get a good write up everywhere, but have found very little about the viking bike.
I only intend to use the bike for back and forth to the gym and then starting to do some road cycling of the weekend slowly building up the mileage as i go. so i was just hoping someone could point me in the right direction if at all possible, i am 5'10 and been told by a friend i would want the 60 frame is this correct as it seems large i would have thought the 58 would be better suited but im no expert.
Any replies would be a lot of help
Thanks in advance
James

You need to shop around at that price point but there are bargains out there. Just walking into a shop with £500 in your pocket wont get you what you want. I found the bikes above in five munites. Cant comment on if they are actually in stock or available. I think you will need a 54 or 56 cm frame but that will depend on you. A 54cm cannondale frame should be ok.0 -
Yes check out those frame sizes. I'm 5'11" and ride a 54cm which is spot on. A slightly smaller frame can be adjusted by using longer stem and saddle position.0

I'm 5'10" and ride a 54cm Cannondale but they size quite large so a 56 may be possible in other manufacturers.
I would not expect you to need a 60cm frame.
Frame types and manufacturers measure differently so there is no single correct response.
Case of trial and error - so sit on them and get a second opinion.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Hi all, thanks for he replies, after trying a few frames im not a 60 frame more like a 56 whch makes a lot more sense.
Im still looking at what bike to get i have tried both the b'twin and the viking and liked them both so will probably end up getting one of them, im still looking for a second hand one on a few places to try and get a trek or something along those lines.
