What Car Rack

Morning All

I am about to pop down to Halfords over the easter weekend and purchase a bike rack. I have had good experiences with Halfords before and kind of trust what they say. However it would be good to get some genuine opinions on what works and what dosent.

I dont want to spend a fortune (under £100 would be good) and I need it to carry two bikes. My car is either a golf or a 3 series BMW so would be great if it is compatible with both.

You will have to excuse my ignorance but I dont know as I have never had one. I guess i would want to be able to take it off easily and not have permenatly attached ?

thats me out. Dont like rear mounted. and swapping them between cars can be a pain.

It's brand new, never used. Bought it last year, tried it out at the weekend and it doesn't fit our car!!!

Budget for wiring for electrics and a light board if the rack/bikes will obscure your plate/lights, the Police are clamping down on that, you could get 3 points and £60 for one of those and then another £60 for the remaining offences.

I use the Halfords 4 bike tow bar rack now which is made by Thule and has an integral light board.

Yes if you were waiting for me to advise.

No if you don't want to hear from someone who has used all three types over a number of years and is now more than happy with two types but would prefer to use just one type. Tow bar mounted.
